Today began early. Roughly around 10 a.m. which honestly isn't so early but when you account that I went to bed at 5 a.m. it equates to just another summer night without much sleep. When I woke up, I headed for the living room and turned on the T.V. just to see what was on today. Nothing exciting, to my disappointment. So I headed back to my room and got dressed and ready for the day's adventures.
My dear friend Kate Garcia arrived at my house around 11 a.m. and we were off to get tickets to see THE DARK KNIGHT. The much anticipated film by the great director Christopher Nolan. One of my favorites.
We drove up to the Neshaminy Mall and quickly power-walked into the entrance closest to the movie theater. Once inside I confidently stepped up to the counter and said, Two for THE DARK KNIGHT please. To which the lady at the counter said. That movie is completely sold out.
Oh yeah? Well fuck you. I'll go elsewhere.
Off to Oxford Valley Mall, where me and Kate did manage to get the tickets we needed so that me, mer, kate, greg (her boyfriend), and greg's sister, could go and witness cinematic genious.
So take that AMC 24, I don't need you.
Anyway, me and Kate then went to brother's pizza for lunch to celebrate the complete turn around in our luck.
LUNCH: Two slices of buffalo chicken pizza. My favorite.
After this is was back to the homestead. Once there I would have to find a way to kill 10 hours. No easy task. I decided to start writing again. My books will never be published, but I do enjoy writing them for sure. And it helps to pass the time when you're bored.
I wrote for a long time and before I knew it, Mer came home from work so I talked to her for awhile. Poor girl woke up at 5 in the morning so that she could run and then take a nap after work so she wouldn't be tired for THE DARK KNIGHT. Yes I am capitalizing it every time on purpose to express how excited I was for this movie.
So we talked for a bit and I told her to take a nap because she had to get up early the next morning too. She took one. Then around 7 she woke up, showered, got dressed, and came over.
We decided to help kill more time we would head off to target. That was fun. I picked up the pepsi I was sent to find by my dearest mother and mer looked for whatever struck her fancy. She ended up getting a nice phillies shirt. I liked it alot, and so did she which made me happy. We payed for our things and got back to my house by 8:30. Then there was nothing left to do but wait.
And now, the moment you've all been waiting for.
THE DARK KNIGHT
At 10:40 p.m. me and mer headed over to meet kate, greg and greg's sister whos name I regretfully didn't catch. Not very courtious of me. But we never really had the chance to exchange pleasantries.
Anywho, we arrived to see them slightly further ahead in the line, so as me and Mer headed for them, some security lady stops us and asks to see our tickets. We oblige her request and then I say, "Our friends are up there in the line (as I point to where they were) could we go up to meet them?" To which the lady replies, Absolutely No Line Cutting.
Fair enough. Mer called me special for asking her, but I figured no big deal we can just sneak up when she's not looking. So after a little while we head on up to where Kate and Greg were and join them in line. Shortly after that, they begin to let the crowd flow in. We head for theater number 5 and take our seats.
Once settled Mer and Kate headed off to get some popcorn. They found Jesse Adams, a friend to...most of you I would venture to guess working at the concession stand. He helped Mer and Kate out by giving them a 6 dollar popcorn (god I hate movie concession prices...) for a dollar fifty. Not bad, even though that's what it should cost in the first place!
They come back and I decide I want to get myself a soda before the movie. So I head on out and get in line. I glance to my left to see that they are checking ticket stubs for people at the concession stand. No big deal, I'll just show them mine, which is right here in my pock.....SONOFABITCH! The lady who ripped the tickets kept my stub. I'm stubless! What do I do?
I called Mer and say I need her to get me back in, because there people won't. She calls me special again and comes out to find me. I reach Jesse just as she does. He gives me a 5 dollar medium coke (FIVE DOLLARS!?) for free. Which once again, is what it should cost.
With the mission to get a drink finished, mer hands me kate's ticket stub and the day is saved.
We make our way back in and the lights dim shortly after.
Once the movie began, all I could do was stare, mouth agape.
It was everything I ever expected, and then some. Christian Bale was fantastic as usual. And all the supporting players were just as good. But the tip of my hat has to go to Heath Ledger as, The Joker.
He blew everyone else's performance out of the water. Jack Nicholson can suck it as far as I'm concerned. Pass the torch pal. I don't care if he's dead, dig him up, place the torch fimly in his hands, and bury him again. Untouchable is the best way to describe what Heath Ledger did with the character of The Joker.
Two and a half hours of sheer splendor later. The movie came to an end. I would love to disclose my favorite parts about the movie, but I'll leave you all to see it for yourselves and enjoy it as much as I did, and know you will.
And now I made my way home. Not much involving food today, but how can you beat the chance to blog on DARK KNIGHT DAY?!!!?
That film was the highlight of my summer thus far (movie release wise) and it will be a tough one to beat. So bloggers, the question is answered. Does THE DARK KNIGHT live up to the hype? I give an overwhelming and resounding, YES.
So now as my day comes to a close, all that's left to say is...
For Whatdidyouhavefordinner.com, I'm D.L. Nicastro. Goodnight Gotham City.
