The past few days have been pretty average in nature. I passed the time as I usually do, and went about my business as usual. Yesterday was my day off, and having finished Crime and Punishment I decided to spend the day reading Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I knew it was a short book so I figured if I tried I could get through all 123 pages and I was able to. It was a nice little tale. Then it was time to fulfill my promise to our fellow food blogger Erik O. Mayer.
Since last year Professor Nesto has been exclaiming to me that the book Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte is "A great piece of American Literature!"
Now there are two things wrong with this statement. Number One, Bronte is British. Number Two, more often than not this saying is applied to literature that is not American.
Regardless, Erik has been going on and on about how wonderful the book is, and how, "Badass Heathcliff is". Heathcliff being a main character in the novel.
Another food blogger, Meredith, has told me that Wuthering Heights was not a good book, so the opinion is divided. But, I put it on my list of books I must read and therefore, I will not stop until it is finished with. It can't be all that bad, I mean it is said to be one of the 100 greatest books ever written. We shall see how true that is. I read the first two chapters and so far I am enjoying it. I'm confused, but I'm enjoying it. I'm also picking up on Bronte's love for the colon [ (:) that kind of colon], they're everywhere in that book! Maybe I'm paying too much attention.
Other than reading which you are all surely getting bored of hearing me talk about, I worked today, but not before going out to lunch with my mother and sister.
Lunch: We headed over to Red Robin and I got a Bacon Cheeseburger with Pepperjack Cheese. I love Pepperjack Cheese.
(Sidenote: I almost forgot I got some Sumatra blend coffee from starbucks the other day and it is delicious. I love extra bold coffee!)
After Red Robin I headed home and by 4:30 I was getting ready for work. I headed in and clocked in at 4:57, and got ready for my daily tasks. First off, swabbing the poop deck as I like to call it, also known as, cleaning the disgusting toilets in the store. I'm the stock guy on my shift which means I'm in charge of basically everything and do more work than anyone else. All the other people I work with now are girls, but I say that's no excuse for not working. Feminists ruined the free ride for you.
I cleaned the bathrooms and then was greeted by a shopping cart spilling over with returns. I did them very quickly and then was told to continue what I had been doing on Sunday. This meant going through the sticker aisles and sifting through every. single. one. and making sure they were all in the right place. Bullshit. But I carry on and do what I'm told, like a good little slave. After 4 hours I was done and it was time to fold all the t-shirts, sweep the floors, gather up the shopping carts, do the rest of my returns for the night, and take out the trash, in about 10 minutes. I did it, and I wasn't happy about it.
I left work at about 9:30 and went to WaWa for dinner.
Dinner: Wawa sammich. A toasted shorti, roasted turkey, bacon, more pepperjack cheese, lettuce, oregano. Always good. I usually get it on a kaiser roll but they were out or some shit. I don't buy that for a minute but whatever. I sped home and devoured it. Then I turned on House. I just got the second season for christmas. I'm watching the DVD's in reverse order but it's still awesome. I've already watched seasons 1-3 of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, and all 7 episodes of John Adams which means it's up for grabs.
Since I'm always talking about what books I'm reading I'll ask you all which I should read next if you even give a crap about my posts anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't, they're kind of dull. Anyway...
What to read next after Wuthering Heights?
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin - Franklin
The Federalist - Hamilton/Madison/Jay
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man - Joyce
The Brothers Karamazov - Dostoevsky
The Grapes of Wrath - Steinbeck
Paradise Lost - Milton
War and Peace - Tolstoy (this book intimidates the shit out of me, please don't vote for it)
The Aenid - Virgil

Paradise Lost is pretty awesome. Milton was blind and made his daughter transcribe every word of it. Must've sucked. But the text itself warrants my vote.
Wuthering Heights was AWESOME!!
HEATHCLIFF!!! KATHY!!!!! I LOVE that book ; read Jane Eyre after that!
I also want to read about Ben F and Thomas Jeff after reading about their Character flaws in John Adams. It makes me want to take another look at those two in depth.
I have an Einstein Autobiography I can lend if your interested.
You're going to love John Adams, the people they cast for Jefferson, Hamilton, Washington, Franklin. All PERFECT in every way! I love that series and I'll bring it to you soon.
"that kind of colon..." LOL
I haven't read any of those books although some are on my mentally existing list of books to read.
I concur with mrs. gillies for jane eyre. and put in a secret, solitary vote for Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. But don't listen to me about this one! Everyone who has ever listened to me about this has hated the ending and never forgiven me for recommending it.
Happy New Year's Eve! It's actually snowing hard outside!
I meant to choose from the list I gave you at the end of my post haha, though I was attempting to secure a copy of Jane Eyre, so perhaps that will end up being what I read next, since it has two votes.
wth, now it's only snowing on this web page...
You can read it online my friend! I also read jane Eyre online and Anne of green Gables. Just google books online.
Thats where I read those.
Now this is exciting, there is a used book store over near the Pennsbury high school where the old Alvinos restaurant used to be! I cannot wait to hit it this weekend although it's more fun when the stores are in cool neighborhoods.
If you're ever in University City, hit up The Last Word bookshop... on S. 40th St. It's so beautiful. I actually bought a handsomely leather bound, gold-gilt paged volume of Wuthering Heights recently.
They even have a cat running around!
