I just decided not to go to sleep and spent the night packing my bags to visit my friend, who I had somewhat lost touch with over the years. I went into Center city early and went to the liquor store to buy her a grown-up gift of wine and felt my childhood pass me by as no one carded me. Hit up macy's just to pass the time and use their fancy bathroom...the store itself is so nice, but everything is so expensive (they do not charge to use their bathroom)! I also tried this pleasant looking breakfast place for lunch called the Corner Bakery Cafe, but when I went in the line was almost out the door, just for pick-up. The seated places were really crowded too. However, they had really nice customer service and the wait wasn't too long. I had a bacon cheese breakfast panini and coffee, which I went to Love park to eat. They put the Christmas tree up and it looks lovely, except that they are building all these brown sheds all around the park for some Nutcracker display or something. While this has drastically limited the traffic into the park, it is somewhat noisy and there are no benches to be seen. I just kind of sat by the rim of the drained fountain and watched people take tourist pictures under the LOVE statue.
Took the train to my friend's house and she then took me on my maiden voyage to Wegman's. It was well worth the hype, as I spent an agonizing fifteen minutes deciding what kind of candy I should get and whether or not I should get a pound of it or not (I ended up getting a little bit more than a half-pound of milk chocolate nonpareils). Also went to the cafe market part of the store and oh man did my mouth water at the selection. I didn't even bother getting one of those divider trays. I just got a big white box and filled it with macaroni and cheese, lo mein, sesame chicken, a shrimp egg roll, and several lamb samosas (oh my heart when I saw the words LAMB samosa...because most samosas are catered to the vegetarians and it is a rare and precious thing when samosas have tasty tasty meat in them). Yeah, I went over a pound but it was so worth it.
Sat on my friend's couch, devoured this motley of food and wine while watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Saved!, and Queen of the Damned. All movies I hadn't seen before, all of which I enjoyed. We went to bed at 5 am, which is not out of the ordinary for me because I haven't broken this wretched sleep cycle that I'm still in.
Woke up and had chocolate croissants for breakfast with coffee, while watching my new lady love Amy Poehler in Baby Mama. It's a predictable movie, but the setting is in Philadelphia! I adore movies that take place in Philadelphia/are not actually set in Philly in the movie, but have Philly buildings in it. This movie had a shot of Love Park in wintertime with the Christmas tree set up, and I kid you not, it looked exactly the same as it did when I visited it the day before.
