Summer Reading

Whoever came up with New Year's resolutions was an old person. We youngsters don't do that sort of jawn. Well at least I don't. Well I do. Just instead of planning a whole year, I come up with plans for the summer. They never work exactly as planned, but what the hay -- can't hurt, right?

I won't torture you with all the things bouncing around my vacant mind, but I will show the top five books I plan to read this summer. (I definitely hope to read more than five, but I'm also accounting for the fact that I've started and stopped reading each of these five books at some point already.)

In no particular order:
Leviathan - Thomas Hobbes
The Dharma Bums - Jack Kerouac
Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
Love in the time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia-Marquez

Summer reading isn't exciting? I beg to differ, sir.

Lunch #1: For my first lunch of the day I had way too many different kinds of potatoes. First, potato soup. Since when does potato soup exist?? It was pretty good though. Second, mashed potatoes with cheese - always good. Third, french fries. Today was potato day, no doubt.

Lunch #2: I still have plenty of meals left so when I got thirsty a while after Lunch #1, I went right back to get a root beer. Oh, Root Beer: the carbonated beverage of kings.

Dinner: Grilled cheese and chips.

The lack of Bob Dole authorship attributed to that list of books is sorely disturbing.

I have a list too!

The Godfather (done)
The Exorcist (done)
Crime and Punnishment
O' Pioneers! (done)
We The Living

i plan on reading gossip girls and some cosmo magazines. also potato soup has existed basically forever and it is delicious. try it at jb dawsons. its about 34208423908 calories but totally worth it.

mer, do you watch gossip girl? wasn't last week's episode intense???

Love in the Time of Chlorea started out great! I really enjoyed it and I wish I had finished it but I ran out of spring break >.<

Interesting choice in springing for Hobbes. Let me know if it's bitter. I am wondering why there is no Tableau Rossa up there, seeing as Hobbes and Locke are ALWAYS paired together.

Ekat is a big Murakami fan I think. I've heard good things, so keep me informed.

My list:
Catch-22-James Heller
Slaughter-House Five-Kurt Vonnegut
The God of Small Things- Arundhati Roy
Breaking Dawn- Stephenie Meyer

Maybe I'll finish Love in Time of Cholera, Memories of my Melancholy Whores, and Anna Karenina too. If I'm ambitious.

Wait...
Do you guys have required reading for school, or this for fun?

Also, I love the Star Wars reference in your comment, Erik!

Unless it was unintentional...

That was unintentional... but sure, yea! I made an awesome Star Wars reference! I'm amazing!

Anyway, this comment section has reminded me that it's a good idea to read. Anyone have a recommendation for a thrilling, dramatic, and intense story?

I say, whoever came up with the distinction between reading for pleasure and reading not for pleasure didn't know how to read!

Erik, you should read The DaVinci Code. It's impossible not to think of Harrison Ford as the main character and Bob Dole makes a cameo. (Not really, but use your imagination and he does.)

Banannafish said...

i may agree with the harrison ford comment, but bob dole? he probably couldn't even pull of that loser guy who is the villian. Seriously, there is no room for bob dole in the da vinci code.

I've got some books for you all to read!

Bob Dole: One Soldier's Story
The Zombie Survival Guide
The Holy Bible (Good for a laugh)
