Banana-Mania

Oh dear...what is there to say? I think I can safely say that this is the first blog of mine in awhile where I am left with absolutely no direction. I don't know where to start, and I'll probably just end up rambling pointlessly for a few paragraphs. But hey, that's how my posts usually end up anyway, so it's all good.

It seems like I've got quite a bit on my plate as far as the next 3 or 4 weeks go, and I'm starting to think I may have bitten off a little more than I can chew. I would divulge, but I doubt any of you are interested, so I'll keep it short and sweet. One day at a time! I'll check back with you all in a month, at which time I'll either be a master at time management, or have reached an all new level of failure known to mankind. Whichever of the two happens, I'll just try to stay classy, snazzy, and jazzy.

Ugh...I can already tell this is going nowhere. I probably just didn't have enough caffeine at work today. Ah! Work...there's something to talk about. Dear lord. I think today was probably my busiest day at Starbucks thus far. I attribute this to two key reasons. Number one, it's free Ice Coffee Wednesday. People love to come in and flash their "Free Iced Coffee" coupons like some sort of award, and then proceed to cram as much additives and syrup to their coffee as they can before the mixture is no longer coffee. I swear, I don't think the people even drink the stuff they order, they just want to get as much free stuff off of us as possible. Factor number two is that yesterday was the release of our new Vivano beverages. If you're sitting there asking yourself what the hell a Vivano is, then you're in the same boat as me seeing as nobody ever really explained to me how to make the damn things! But I have drank several of them and let me tell you right now, you do NOT want them! It's a blended beverage with bananas and either mocha sauce or mango juice, and lets put it this way...I went home and threw up after drinking the mango one. The chocolate one isn't so bad. Let's just hope its a seasonal thing. But all day I had people asking about what the hell these things are, and getting blank stares at my failure to explain the godawful beverage to them. Now that I'm off the time clock, I can give my honest opinion. Don't even try them.

But if there's one thing that has sparked my curiosity about the beverages, it's that all the baristas are thrilled at the concept of a new drink. It's like getting new toys at Christmas. They all want to try mixing the bananas with different things and creating their own specific drink. They'll just sit at the blender shelling out different drinks for hours.
"This time I'm gonna put in lemonade."
"This time, let me try using chocolate chips."
"Here, put in the Macho Powder."
For those of you who don't know, Macho Powder (or Matcha Powder, I've seen them both written and don't know which is real) is a green powder that instantly and magically makes any delicious Starbucks beverage a nasty green color with large clumps left floating around. In my opinion, it should be banned along with Decaf coffee, but the fact that I get to sing "Macho Man" every time I use it makes it a little better.

IN ANY CASE! Getting back to my day. It was nuts. I don't think there was a point in the day where there wasn't a person standing at the cash register. It was literally a constant flow of people. I stood at that register so long that my back was killing me. The counters and the floor were a complete mess because there was so much shit going on that we couldn't help but spill everything. And since there was always a line out the door, there was very little time to clean up. To top it all off, there was never enough coffee to feed the savages who were clawing at our throats! Well....scratch that. There was plenty of coffee, but none that was "Up to Starbucks standards". Apparently we can't serve coffee that has been sitting for over a half hour. It used to be an hour, but someone made the executive decision awhile back that coffee sitting out for an hour isn't good enough. I mean, it sounds like a good plan to give the public fresh coffee, but god damn. Those coffee timers go off at the WORST times!

But all in all, just another day. I didn't get my break until an hour before I was supposed to leave. Which I thought was odd. Then I lost track of time and ended up staying like...20 minutes overtime. I figured they'd send me home when it was time for me to leave, but apparently they thought I was staying a good 4 hours later than I actually was. Then for some reason or another I agreed to switch my closing shift with someone's opening shift. Guess I'm waking up at 3 in the morning again.

What else is going on? E3 was running all this week. Which is a video game geek such as myself's dream. Unfortunately, E3 totally sucked this year. Nintendo announced Animal Crossing for the Wii, and that's about it. Don't get me wrong, it'll be awesome...but come on. That's it?! Also the Dark Knight is coming out this week. Which is going to be the best movie of all time until it actually comes out and people realize that it's not half as good as they expected. I understand that a good many of you will yell at me for saying that, but I've seen it happen many times. Hollywood is dead to me. I wouldn't be surprised if I never saw another movie in the theater again. Not including Wes Anderson films of course. I'd gladly take the time to see those!

And on that note, I'm just about done. Hopefully my ramblings have entertained you all for the duration of this blog. It is what I live for. I am but an entertainer.

Breakfast: Slept through it. Mmmm....sleep.

Lunch: I made Ramen, but after making it, I realized that I wasn't really hungry. I forced myself to eat half of it, because it took so damn long to make.

...you know you're impatient when you complain at how long it takes to make instant ramen.

Dinner: I had a slice of pumpkin loaf at work, which held me over until I got home. Then my dearest mother made me a Boca burger. I still don't know what those are made out of, but before you all make fun of me for eating them, I assure you they taste just like regular hamburgers!

excellent post! i love getting the 411 of what's going on at Starbucks from an insider...even though I stopped buying coffee there once I realized I could buy coffee off the trucks for a week and still spend less than I would for a tall white mocha.

i want to see the dark knight!!! i do , i do, i do!!! but sadly, i think they're sold out for tommorrow nite. maybe it's better to wait till it comes out on dvd once the hype has died down.
