This morning I was rather pissed. I couldn't do my usual routine of delaying going to work. Generally I set the alarm at 8:45 and hit dismiss until like 9:30. Then I get up and dress and Steph and I hit the trucks to get coffee. We then go to sit in the nearby Starbucks to enjoy the air-conditioning and protest expensive coffee with our styrofoam lunch-truck cups. (Sorry Ian--your employer charges way to much for a tall white mocha) Then I walk as slowly as possible to work, generally around 10 or 10:30. It's not bad really.
But today, I had to BE at work by 9. Lame because it wasn't actually work. And because I couldn't find the room at first. So I found some elevator, and I looked at it but it went to 6 and 8. With no 7 in between! Which is where I needed to go! I took the stairs at 6 to discover that they lead to the roof. >.< Was my early rising in vain? Would I end up late to the meeting? Would I ever get there? I took the elevator down, where I ran into this kid getting on. I explained my predicament to him and he laughed. He suggested running through the elevator doors as it went past 6 a la Harry Potter. While I found this amusing, I suggested he go first. At any rate, I found another elevator that went to the 7th floor, where all was right.
The lab meeting to hear one of the grad students practice her PhD defense. Intense shit. I'm not going to lie, I did not pay much attention seeing as I had an orgo test at 3. Sadly, I did not study well yesterday or the day before. My friend Ran had to be my Asian mother and made me sit in my room to read everything. She even took my Macbook!!! That hit me where it hurt, so I had to study :( Hopefully it payed off but that test was too ambiguous for me to know how I did. Whatever...
But after that 2 hour meeting, we went down to lab where I had to hope for getting successful results this time for this lame poster I have to do. Hopefully something stains. Well I'll know tomorrow.
Anyway, the best part of working at lab is location, location, location! Because there's always summer orientation/new student days going on (in the efforts to sway young saps and their parents into the drexel bureaucracy) this ultimately means FREE FOOD in the engineering building! The trick is finding the right floor. With careful planning, and with the right networking skills, you can spend a week without actually buying lunch. Generally, in the morning you may be able to nab breakfast of coffee and cookies. If you're really good, you can get there when there are chocolate chip ones. It took me weeks to train to that level, (I used to get there when there were only oatmeal raisin and peanut butter...oh the progress I've made). The key is moving fast when you here that there is food. So if you open the door for the janitor and he tells you 2nd floor has food, you push aside that reading material and split. But anyway lunch can vary from different sandwiches to tacos to interesting appetizers. Today, the grad boys who I posse with in the food-gathering business, stole a large bowl of fruit. Since I have no use for fruit, I was very nonchalant about it. However, the prof made them take it back. lol, after all that trouble getting it down here, having to put it back sort of sucks.
After a long day, it's nice to come home and have tea while relaxing to Batman Beyond. This is my tea-time showtime special. Anyway, did you know Terry's voice is Eric (the older brother) from Boy Meet's World?? Who knew there was a Batman hiding behind that "Fee-heee-neeey?"
I did other shit, but I'm too tired to get into it. Basically, I conned my friend to go to 7-11 with me so we could pick up our favorite men, Ben and Jerry. We thoroughly devoured that pint during project runway and we couldn't get ourselves off the couch. Sigh, I hope next year is busy enough to counter this summer of hardcore eating. Showertime, but here it is, on the record:
Breakfast: coffee and banana
lunch: FREE TACOS with all the toppings (i.e. guacamole) with jalapeno poppers and quesadias.
tea: bananas and tea and yogurt
dinna: mozzarella sticks and Ben and Jerry's "Everything But The.."
