Chili and Cornbread

This was what was for dinner last night.  At our house anyway. When a person takes off a day from work in order to meet a friend at the beach and bike ride through a beach town and sip wine(secretly of course) on the beach later on and have lunch, but instead wakes to the remnants of a hurricane, sometimes you just need a meal like this one. A real heavy, stick to your ribs kind of thing.
And what's chili without it's pal, corn bread, so I made some of that too!  It was just what the doctor ordered.
So instead of going to the beach, which would have been just stupid, we went to Neshaminy mall(which is too much time is spent there, can be very depressing due to the odd background music, and the austere antimicrobial feel to the atmosphere) to have lunch and see a movie.  We had lunch at Manny Browns and we saw 500 days of summer which you should really skip if you had the chance to go to the beach and ride your bike instead,
but since I didn't and I do love Zooey dechanel, we sat through the whole thing.
Two people actually walked out. It was soooo long and drawn out and after a while you just didn't think she was so cute anymore and you wanted to smack her.  The leading man was NOT worth mentioning. at all. No, for real.
BUT at Manny Browns, I had a really good glass of cabernet, some chicken fajitas and a nice chat.  They had this beer on their beer list that the monks used to drink when they were fasting, way wya back in the old monk days. It was described as a sort of bread beer.  Mucho calories so next time I go there or maybe tonight, I am going to try this beer.  It sounds wonderful.  It could be my meal.
So then we went to Barnes & Noble for some afternoon coffee and to chat about the movie.
The person who waited on us was, I will describe her as  annoyed and annoying. Clearly this woman did NOT belong working in a Starbucks.
She was annoyed that her stupid customers don't know the names of things and made her displeasure known by correcting us in her sarcastic impatient tone. And then after, when we had seated ourselves with our libations and realized that after all that sarcasm, she gave us the wrong cookie anyway.  I went back up and asked in a cheerful, non accusation-al, non confrontational way if we could simply exchange for the OTHER chocolate chip cookie and she said, "Well you asked for this  chocolate chip so and so cookie but if you want the Chocolate Chocolate blah blah cookie instead, then I can get that for you.
This was when she became annoying.
Always a wise thing to make the dumb customers feel stupid twice so you can feel right.
We already knew she was right.  We don't work there, we don't know the correct names, we just want the cookie that we want.
 She was right
So, off back home through the torrential rain to make this wonderful batch of chili and cornbread .  Has to stop at my favorite store Genuardis to grab a hunk of Cheddar cheese for the chili.  Going there is always a nice experience for me.
So all in all, a day which require a little effort on my part to make lemonade out of lemons.
