In Which Unproductive Procrastination is Discussed

I am really bad at doing work.

Well, not so much the doing, but the process of doing the doing. If that makes sense. This entire past weekend, I've thought about how much work I have due this week, and so I sat myself down in front of my computer all weekend in an attempt to "bang it out." The problem is, there's so much stuff on my computer that's so much more appealing than doing work! Like the internet. Good Dole, the internet! It's not even that great, though. I end up cycling through the same 15 or 20 websites, including various emails and video game pages and forums and sports blogs and social networking sites, and by the time I get to the end of that cycle, I say, "Well, it's been a while, let's see if anything is new at site #1." And I get caught in this dreadful, self-perpetuating electronic hell that I know is a complete waste of time. And yet, it's still better than staring at a blank Word document.

That's actually why I'm making a blog post right now. I should be writing a paper, but instead I stumbled across the blog in my cycle and realized that it was a new week, and thus I was eligible to post again! I've written more words in this blog post so far in ten minutes of writing it than I have in the past two hours of "writing" my paper. I'm an idiot!

Even worse than the everlasting internet distraction is that I now have an excuse to play the independently-developed platforming classic, Cave Story, for the billionth and billionth-and-first and billionth-and-second time: I'm beta testing the upcoming Steam release of the game! Every time a new beta is released (which has been about a couple times a week so far), I feel compelled to sink my teeth into the game and see if I can't find any glitches or anything. It's really bad because I have a desktop icon for it, and whenever I minimize my paper (which is a lot), I see it and think of something else I could try in the game. Down the tubes goes another hour!

But that's okay, because I love Cave Story and I only feel bad about playing it instead of working after the fact. If any of you use Steam, I implore you to keep your eyes peeled for its upcoming release!

Shameless plugs aside, the last big thing distracting me from doing work is food. My lunch break for leftover steak yesterday afternoon absolutely killed my productivity for essentially the rest of the day. I don't really know how that happened. As for today...

Lunch:
I got home from class and Mom cooked up some leftover pizza from last night, with a baked potato. Top it off with a glass of chocolate milk and you have a winner! Surprisingly, I got off to a good start with writing my paper immediately after that. Perhaps the grease of the pizza served as some kind of fuel to my productivity, but it didn't last that long, I don't think.

Dinner:
We got Chinese for dinner tonight! Colonel Taso, your chicken so good, with a side of chicken fried rice. That'll make for some more leftovers for the next few days!

In conclusion, I think I'm getting old. I grow tired earlier in the day than I used to, meaning it's hard to be productive much past sundown (which is like, 4 o clock these days...). Going to sleep just seems like a much more productive use of my time than staring at a computer screen, so I might be doing that soon. Maybe I need to start drinking coffee...

Yeahhh, feel the productivity go out the window! I'm glad to have finally converted someone!
